1st Swiss International Conference on Industrial Microbiology 2012

MICROSCON marks the beginning of a new chapter in the exploration of advances and trends in industrial microbiology. Its aim is to bring together experts from industry and academia: the conference is an interdisciplinary platform for networking, as well as discussing research and innovations that are charting the course for the future.

The conference will focus on the industrial application, exploitation, discovery and control of microorganisms. Microbiologists are not the sole audience here; other scientists from academia and industry with an interest in state-of-the-art applied and industrial microbiology will also find a warm welcome.

The presenting scientists will talk about the latest research and development work in their respective fields of microbiological expertise, including food and beverages, plants and environment, industrial manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals. Future trends and business development are further topics for attention.

While the primary goal is to promote know-how transfer from basic research to its application in industry, MICROSCON 2012 also aims to endorse and facilitate joint developments in this field. A limited number of grants will be disbursed to support the attendance of young academics.

Second National Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance : A Cause for Global Concern

The rapid emergence of resistance to antibiotics amongst pathogens generates visions of the 'potential post-antibiotic era threatening present and future medical advances'. The extensive use of antibiotics in medicine and agriculture has increased the reservoir of resistance genes. It is thus not surprising that the introduction of a new agent is, practically invariably, followed by heightened resistance. Legitimately used antibiotic therapy based on sound evidences is justified; however, the inappropriate use largely exceeds this and introduces a large amount of antibiotic into the environment.

In view of the above, the Department of Microbiology & Fermentation Technology, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Deemed-to-be-University, Allahabad is organizing the Second National Conference on “Antimicrobial Resistance : A Cause for Global Concern” from 6 - 8th February, 2012. The organizing committee takes pleasure to extend a warm and cordial invitation to Faculty members, Scientists, Students, Health Care Professionals and Industrialists from various Universities, Research Institutes and Organizations to participate and present the relevant data under the various themes and sub-themes.

The Conference will provide a new forum for presentation and dissemination of information on increasing antimicrobial resistance in microbial pathogens and exchange experiences on anti-microbe strategies.

National Seminar on MICROBIAL DIVERSITY-POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

National Seminar on MICROBIAL DIVERSITY-POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS
28 th & 29 th January, 2012
Sponsored by
ANDHRA PRADESH STATE COUNCIL OF HIGHER EDUCATION (APSCHE)
Organized by
DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY
PALAMURU UNIVERSITY
MAHABUBNAGAR - 509 001 A P
THEME OF THE SEMINAR
Interest in the exploration of microbial diversity has been spurred by the fact that microbes are essential for life since they perform numerous functions essential for the biosphere that include nutrient cycling and environmental detoxification. The vast array of microbial activities and their importance to the biosphere and to human economies provide strong rationale for understanding their diversity, conservation and exploitation for society. The microbial world is the largest unexplored reservoir of biodiversity on the earth. Microbial diversity needs to be explored, as microbes are essential for life since they are having biotechnological applications with extreme commercial value.
The research on microorganisms once confined to phenotypic studies, is now aiming at to explore the genetic makeup with an objective to exploit the potentials of the organisms to the extent of built in capacity and even beyond that. Microbial diversity is a great source for biotechnological exploration of novel organisms, products and processes. Polyphasic studies integrate different aspects of microbial diversity and provide a more complete picture of microbial diversity and a deeper understanding of the interactions in microbial ecosystems. Recent advances in exploration of microbial diversity, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics and genetic engineering have brought into focus several unforeseen applications of the microorganisms. With the availability of new molecular marker techniques, amazing microbial diversity of extreme habitats, unexplored habitats is unfolding. Consequently, there is a renewed interest shown in the applications of new microbes and their products.
