NEURONUS 2012, IBRO & IRUN Neuroscience Forum - Poland

It is our pleasure to invite you to NEURONUS 2012, IBRO & IRUN Neuroscience Forum to be held in Krakow (Poland) on April 20-22, 2012.
So far, four editions of two separate neuroscientific events have been annually organized at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow: the Students’ Neuroconference was organized by the NEURONUS Students’ Society and was mostly devoted to the molecular and biological neuroscience, while Krakow Workshop on Psychophysiology, organized by the Institute of Psychology, was focused primarily on the cognitive neuroscience. As some topics were common for both conferences, we have decided to co-organize one event as the 2012 edition of our previous conferences.
Our main goal is to create the opportunity to share the neuroscientific knowledge from related subdisciplines and, specifically, to establish contacts between experienced scientists and young researchers. We strongly believe that these changes will give rise to the big annual IBRO & IRUN-featured event, truly unique in Poland and on the Eastern European scale.
We can undoubtedly feel experienced with organizing successful conferences on the international scale. During the previous meetings we had an occasion to host some acknowledged scientists: Frank Pfrieger (Institute of Cellular and Integrative Neurosciences, Strasbourg), Stefan Pulver (Cambridge University), Richard Frackowiak (Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, Lausanne), Johannes Letzkus (FMI for Biomedical Research, Basel), Adrian Owen (Cambridge University), Alfons Hamm (University of Greifswald), Rolf Verleger (University of Lübeck), Rob van der Lubbe (University of Twente), Piotr Winkielman (University of California), and not to mention a strong representation of the Radboud University in Nijmegen (the Netherlands), with Anton Coenen and Gilles van Luijtelaar.
To summarize our annual meetings, last year we were invited to publish a set of scientific papers in one of the most relevant journals in the field, International Journal of Psychophysiology. “Basic and applied electrophysiology" special issue is expected to be successfully accomplished until the end of 2011. The opportunity to publish full papers in a peer-reviewed journal can undoubtedly reflect the quality of the so-far conference presentations.
On behalf of the Organizing Committee we eagerly await to welcome you in Krakow and wish you an inspiring tim

BioVisionAlexandria 2012 New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society - Egypt

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing its Sixth International Biennial Conference, BioVisionAlexandria 2012, 22-25 April 2012, in Alexandria, Egypt. The theme of the upcoming BioVisionAlexandria Conference is "New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society" which aims at addressing the role science can play in achieving a fair, equal and just society, not just through scientific research but also policy adjustment.
BioVisionAlexandria (BVA) is an international event organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in partnership with the World Life Sciences Forum, BioVision. It is a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 in Lyon, France in which BioVisionAlexandria Conference was held every even year, alternating with the World Life Sciences Forum held in Lyon every odd year since 2004.
BVA 2012 aims at gathering representatives and leaders in science, industry and society to identify and set the priorities needed to rebuild society and discuss how the policies of scientific research need to be revolutionized towards serving society, especially the less fortunate, and to transform the lives of those who truly need it.
Alongside this significant event, the BA is organizing a major fair entitled: “BioFair@BioVisionAlexandria 2012”, which gives the exhibitors an opportunity to showcase their products and services to over 2000 participants, around 120 Nobel Laureates, distinguished keynote speakers, eminent scientists, and CEOs of several national and multinational companies as well as Ministers of Health and Agriculture coming from the four corners of the globe. As scientific research is an important tool for social development and economic progress of any country, the BA will also held a Poster Session for young researchers and scientists. The Poster Session aims at providing opportunities for scientists, especially young ones, to meet with life sciences professionals, and present their work in a professional atmosphere of discussion and interchange.
In addition, BVA 2012 will feature an interactive event in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) for young researchers from the developing world titled “TWAS/BVA.NXT”. The Event will be held 21-22 April 2012 under the theme: “Scientific Innovation in the Developing World: From Theory to Practice”, and it intends to explore scientific innovation in the developing world, and highlight its importance for sustainable development. Furthermore, the young scientists will be invited to participate in BioVisionAlexandria Conference program.

Hands-on-Workshop on Biostatistics for postgraduates and research scholars -

It gives us immense pleasure to announce the organisation of the “Hands-on-Workshop on Biostatistics” and we extend an invite to you to attend and participate actively in this event.
The conference is being organised by the Indian Journal of Medical Specialities which is committed to spreading medical education in collaboration with the Department of Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi.

The Indian Journal of Medical Specialities continuing with its educational commitment has always catered to topics of practical importance to all postgraduates, residents and general practitioners. The First Annual Conference on Research Methodology and Paper-Writing was a tremendous success and a need was felt to enlighten and educate the postgraduates, residents and researchers on Biostatistics, which is not routinely taught in the right earnest in any curriculum.

Unlike the Annual Conference held on October 9, 2011 which was largely attended, this event aims to target a very small group and only 30 participants will be registered on a first come first serve basis, so that at the end of the one and a half day workshop and hands on training, the participants go home with confidence that they can execute what they have learnt nicely.

Three sessions are proposed, one on Sample size determination, other on Application of Statistical tests and the third half day session will be solely dedicated to SPSS.

It is going to be a totally different ball-game because the efforts put in by the organisers and the resource persons will be with the sole aim of capacity-building of the participants. The participants will be provided hands-on-training on laptops/desktops so that they can practice then and there whatever they are learning. Surely, the conference is going to deal with topics which are difficult, but I am sure that at the end of it all, the participants would return home more than satisfied.

There is a tremendous research potential in the country and most of it is suffering because of lack of knowledge and its execution. Biostatistics is an important part of research and expertise in the same is of paramount importance. Hence, these three half-day sessions in this workshop will be of immense significance to researchers and scholars who are keen to pursue research.

The workshop proposes to be an academic feast and is aimed for the scientific researcher, postgraduates, research scholars and doctors with a keen interest towards research. People who are ambitious to take up faculty posts and find research bothersome will also benefit immensely from the hands-on workshops.

The workshops shall include a series of lectures from eminent speakers from all over India and the programme will be interspersed with three workshops. These workshops will help the delegates grasp whatever has been delivered in the lectures. At the end of the day, we are sure that the participants will be delighted to have learnt newer concepts and gained newer ideas, which they will be able to execute in their day-to-day routine with greater efficiency.

The delegates should register early and make the most of this rare opportunity to gain insights in to biostatistics and its related aspects.
