48th International Conference on Medicinal Chemistry - France

This prestigious scientific meeting covers the major aspects of medicinal chemistry with particular emphasis on the importance of chemical biology in modern drug discovery.

The scientific programme, which will include over 20 plenary lectures by internationally well-known scientists, focuses on recent achievements in

- Target Selection and Validation for Drug Discovery
- Chemical Biology,
- Hit-to-lead: Identification, Selection, Development,
- Case-studies: from Bench to Bedside,
- Physico-Chemical Tools and Structural Studies,
- Synthetic Chemistry: New Frontiers Impacting Drug Discovery.

The scientific committee ensures the high quality and diversity of the scientific programme together with the accessibility of the meeting to MSc and PhD students. For the latter, an advantageous registration fee will be proposed. Moreover, a special career session will be organised with industrial and academic participants.

During the meeting the traditional prizes (P. Ehrlich Lecture Award and C. Mentzer Prize) of the ‘Société de Chimie Thérapeutique’ will be awarded to researchers or research teams for their outstanding contributions to medicinal chemistry.

In addition, a poster session will provide the opportunity for all participants to present their current results. A “best poster” prize will also be attributed.

France 2012 confernece on Chromatin: from structure to epigenetics

This exciting 2-day conference will link chromatin structure with epigenetics. The aim is to use chromatin structure and dynamics as foundations to understand epigenetics. The first session will be devoted to structural aspects covering the main biochemical and biophysical aspects of chromatin structure. The second session will "bridge" these two areas, and focus on studies using chromatin structure/dynamics to explain epigenetic phenomena. Session 3 will concentrate on epigenetic phenomena in vivo. With this meeting we will build a bridge between chromatin structure and epigenetics - two key pillars of modern biology. Our aims: Encourage plenty of discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. In particular initiate discussions about chromatin structure and dynamics as foundations for understanding epigenetics Provide a unique opportunity for students and post-docs to participate and present their own data Inspire new collaborations and investigations within this ever growing field of research

EMBO conference - Tuberculosis 2012, Paris, France

11 to 15 September 2012 Paris, France

Tuberculosis remains an enormous burden to human health, even at the beginning of the 21st century. The situation is worsening in many countries, particularly due to the synergy with the HIV epidemic and the appearance of multi-drug resistant (MDR) or extensively-drug resistant (XDR) tuberculosis. The urgently needed development of new tools that can improve the diagnosis, prevention and/or therapy of tuberculosis and other major mycobacterial diseases depends largely on the progress made by basic and applied research.

The EMBO conference series "Tuberculosis 2012" is an international congress that provides a premium forum for the discussion and exchange of the recent advances of current research and novel trends related to tuberculosis, its causative agent Mycobacterium tuberculosis and related pathogenic mycobacteria. This international meeting to be held from September 11-15, 2012, will take place in the Conference centre (CIS) within the campus of the Institut Pasteur, which can host up to 500 conference delegates and is situated in the center of Paris, France.

The conference will be of interest to researchers, doctors, and representatives from industry with focus on the biology of pathogenic mycobacteria and their interaction with their hosts. Participation by students and scientists in the early stages of their careers is highly encouraged. Tuberculosis 2012 will provide abundant opportunities for networking and exchange of information between senior scientists and professionals, new investigators and students.

Paris 2012 - International Human Microbiome Congress

Human Microbiome research has become one of the most exciting fields in biology, generating fascinating insights into the relations of microbes and man and the effects of our microbes on our health and well-being. World leading scientists will discuss the new findings, their impacts and the future trends at the next International Human Microbiome Congress, organized by the European consortium MetaHIT in Paris, March 19-21, 2012 at the Palais Brongniart. This is a prime occasion to feel the field – early registration is highly encouraged, as we shall proceed on the first come first served basis.

Scientists are encouraged to submit their work as poster presentations, some of which will be selected for oral presentations.

Registration and abstract submission are now open. Information about local logistics and various practical tips, including hotels, will soon be available.

The Congress will welcome 600 participants at the Palais Brongniart. Registration fees work as follow:

475€ for regular registration
400€ for junior (*) registration
The NIH Human Microbiome Project will contribute support for a select number of junior scientists (*) to attend this conference. An abstract, a CV and a list of publications (CV and publications, maximum 2 pages) will be needed for the travel award application. Applications should be received no later than Friday, December 2, 2011. A selection committee will review these applications and travel awards will be announced in late December, 2011. It is anticipated that a maximum of 40 awards will be given and will be applied as a waiver towards the registration fee.

(*) For this application as well as registration fees, junior scientists are defined as current PhD students and post-doctoral fellows who have received their PhD degree within the last 4 years.
