Subject Training on "Advances in Animal Bioinformatics"
February 21 to March 3, 2012
Organised by
National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE :February 21 to March 3, 2012
Organised by
National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources
National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (NBAGR) is one of the leading institutes under animal science division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It has a working mandate of characterisation, improvement and conservation of animal genetic resources comprising of a large number of breeds of poultry and livestock species such as cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, camel, yak, mithun, horse, pig, donkey, etc. Since its establishment in 1984, the institute has been working on cytogenetics, immunogenetics, phenotypic and genetic characterization, and genomic studies of indigenous livestock breeds. Remarkable achievements in development of databases, and characterisation and registration of animal genetic resources have been achieved in short span of time. The institute is currently emphasizing on in-situ and ex-situ conservation, genome annotation, transcriptome analysis, microarrays, etc.
NBAGR is located on National Highway -1, Karnal city of Haryana state. Karnal is well connected to New Delhi and Chandigarh by rail as well as by road. It is located in the middle of the two cities at a distance of 125 km from either side. Weather of Karnal in the month of February is little cold but cheerful.
ABOUT NAIP-NABG PROJECT :
"Establishment of National Agricultural Bioinformatics Grid (NABG) in ICAR" is a national project under Component-1 of NAIP. IASRI, New Delhi is the lead institute of the project and NBAGR along with national bureaus on plant, fish, insects, micro-organisms is a cooperating institute for animal domain. The project involves creation of biological databases, computational techniques for analysis of biological data, and installation of high-performance storage and computing facilities for bioinformatics research in National Agricultural Research System. With latest computing facilities and availability of sequenced genomes of several livestock and poultry species, NABG also envisages development of trained scientific manpower for taking up path-breaking research in bioinformatics.ABOUT THE TRAINING :
The aim of the training on "Advances in Animal Bioinformatics" is to bring experienced researchers together with curious participants for learning state of the art techniques in animal bioinformatics so as to take up relevant research in the animal domain. The training will involve both theory and practical sessions. The course content would dwell on the topics: Genetic diversity analysis using microsatellite and SNP data, genome annotation, genome wide association, transcriptome analysis, microarray data analysis, protein structure prediction, phylogeny, databases, genetic diseases, soft computing techniques, etc
Eligibility : Scientists, Teachers, Technical officers (1-6 and above) from ICAR institutes, State Animal and Veterinary Science Universities who are interested to take up research in animal bioinformatics are invited to apply for the training. Last date: Duly filled Application form endorsed by competent authority should reach the training coordinator on or before January 15, 2012.
Seats and selection : There are 25 seats in the training and selection will be on first come - first serve basis. Participants will be informed about their selection latest by January, 20, 2012. Travel, Boarding and Lodging : The cost of travel, boarding and lodging of the selected participants will be met out of the available budget in the NAIP-NABG project. Accommodation will be arranged in the NBAGR Guest House. To and fro travel fare restricted to Train AC-II Tier will be reimbursed for the journey by shortest route.
