Training programme on "Allele mining in natural genetic resources for targeted trait improvement and their conservation

Two weeks NAIP sponsored training programme on
"Allele mining in natural genetic resources for targeted
trait improvement and their conservation"
February 25 - March 9, 2012
Organized by
NBFGR, Lucknow
Background Information :
The diverse genetic resources from Indain Agro-biodiversity offer rich opportunity for research leading to nutritional security of burgeoning human population. However, these genetic resources need precise documentation, conservation and management strategies for sustainable utilization. One of the important aspect of diversity is intra-specific genetic variation. Such variation, the species accumulates in its genome over the evoultionary course through selection while it sustains through climatic and other pressures. In other words the genetic variation base the species has is the key to its survival. Over the course of technological development, various classes of molecular markers have been put to use that analyse the distribution and pattern of genetic variations, both for non-coding and functional part of the genome. The analysis of functional variations have given rise tot he new field of research, population genomics.
About the Course :
1. Analysis of genetic diversity present in natural genetic resources and assessing population structure through molecular markers, microsatellite and mitochondrial DNA
2. Identification / Isolation of candidate genes for trait based on differential transcriptome analysis through subtraction, annotation of gene sequences and validation through quantitative PCR.
3. Identification of gene associated SSR and SNPs and primer designing
4. Screening of natural genetic resources with identified gene specific markers for novel alleles.
5. Bio-informatic tools for allele mining.
The course will have mix of classroom lectures, demonstrations as well as hands on experience. The course will be conducted by faculty from NBFGR and expert resource persons from India & abroad. In addition to the core component of the course, invited lectures on the development in the field of genomics of plants, animal, microbes, bioinformatics and IPR issues will be organized.
Who are eligible to participate : The course is open scientists, researchers and teachers (not below the rank of Assistant Professor) and engaged in active and engaged in active research at Agricultural University / ICAR institute. The perspective candidates may send application form forwarded by the HEad of institute to "The Director or Course Director, NBFGR, Lucknow." Email : naip2012@gmail.com
