Plant parts,extracts and phytochemicals derived from medicinal plantsare being used in different systems of medicine like Ayurveda,Siddha, Unani, Homeopathy, Folklore and Allopathy. About25% of prescription drugs are derived from medicinal plants.The pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries are currentlyengaged actively in Research and Development of ecofriendly phytochemicals as 70-80% of population ofdeveloping countries are relying on products which are ofplant origin. These attributes clearly indicate the demandingposition of MAPs in the present market.
