6th International Congress on Biocatalysis, Germany

In times when global challenges like finite fossil energy reserves, demographic changes, environmental pollution and climate change demand innovative solutions and substantial structural changes from an oil-based to a bio-based industrial production, biocatalysis will be one of the key technologies helping to take responsibility for world food supply, sustainable raw materials and energy supply from biomass. To find solutions to the urging problems of our time exchange of knowledge and ideas between specialists from both the academic and industrial sectors becomes particularly important.

In these exciting times it is my great pleasure and honor to invite scientists from all over the world to the 6th International Congress on Biocatalysis 2012 (biocat2012) to be held September 2 - 6, 2012 at the Hamburg University of Technology, Hamburg, Germany.
Since 2002 we have been organizing the biocat conference series, which focuses on the rapidly evolving fields of biocatalysis and industrial biotechnology. The preceeding International Congresses on Biocatalysis were held in Hamburg, Germany, every two years and attracted more than 1800 participants from over 35 countries.

The major topics to be addressed are:

• Enzyme discovery, recombinant production, synthetic biology and design

• Structure-function analysis and modelling

• Enzymatic and whole cell biotransformations

• Bioprocess engineering and downstream processing

• Biorefinery and sustainable development of industrial processes

11th Greta Pifat-Mrzljak International School of Biophysics

The school is intended for young scientists at the beginning of their academic careers who are interested in the fundamental study of biomacromolecules: the structures of nucleic acid/protein complexes (ribosomes, viruses, chromatin), protein aggregation, conformational dynamics, folded and intrinsically disordered proteins, enzymatic activity—small molecule recognition, biomacromolecular interactions, bioenergetics and single molecule biophysics.
For more than 30 years, the school was chaired by the late Prof. Greta Pifat-Mrzljak, an eminent Croatian biophysicist and recipient of the American Biophysical Society’s Emily M. Gray Award, and is generally regarded as one of the best of its kind in Europe. Through the years, it has been attended by more than one thousand Ph.D. students and postdocs interested in becoming acquainted with the state-of-the-art in biophysics. The lecturers have always been of the highest quality, including top scientists in their respective disciplines and several Nobel laureates.
Therefore, in addition to the school’s inherent role in the transfer of knowledge and ideas, it has always had a catalytic role in arranging future research collaborations, joint projects, visits and postdoc positions.
With the legacy of Prof. Pifat-Mrzljak in mind, it is the intention of the organizers to position this school as a biennial event, complementary to, rather than competing with, relevant international activities, e.g., the Regional Biophysics Conference or the EBSA Biophysics Course.
Topic for 2012
Biomacromolecular complexes and assemblies (protein-RNA/DNA complexes, e.g., viruses, ribosomes; quaternary protein structures; DNA, proteins and polyelectrolytes)
The lecturers will describe related problems and discuss approaches to their solutions, e.g.:
• spectroscopies (NMR, EPR, FTIR, Raman, MS...)
• microscopies (fluorescence techniques, tweezers...)
• diffraction methods
• computational solutions, modeling and simulations

JCBBB 2012 - Journal Conference on Bioscience, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics

2012 2nd Journal Conference on Bioscience, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (JCBBB 2012 2nd) aims to provide a forum for researchers, pactitioners, and professinals from the industry, academia and government to discourse on research and development, professional practice in bioscience, biochemistry and bioinformatics. JCBBB 2012 2nd will be held in Jeju Island, Korea During June 29-30, 2012. It is one of the leading international conferences for presenting novel and fundamental advances in the fields of bioscience, biochemistry and bioinformatics. It also serves to foster communication among researchers and practitioners working in a wide variety of scientific areas with a common interest in improving bioscience, biochemistry and bioinformatics related techniques.

All submissions will be peer reviewed and evaluated based on originality, technical and/or research content/depth, correctness, relevance to conference, contributions, and readability. Submissions will be chosen based on technical merit, interest, applicability, and how well they fit a coherent and balanced technical program.

All submitted articles should report original, previously unpublished research results, experimental or theoretical, and will be peer-reviewed. Articles submitted to the conference should meet these criteria and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts should follow the style of the journal and are subject to both review and editing.

All the registered papers will be published into International Journal of Bioscience, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics (IJBBB, ISSN: 2010-3638, available at: http://www.ijbbb.org/content.htm ) by IACSIT Publishing, and distributed at the conference. The journal will be included in the Engineering & Technology Digital Library.
